The Scheme is applicable to contractors of all sizes and was developed jointly by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) in Dublin and the Construction Employers Federation (CEF) in Belfast. It is applicable in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

The Scheme satisfies the health and safety suitability requirements for contractor organisations for public procurement in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and UK and removes the requirement to provide additional information.
The scheme was set up to assure clients that certified contractors have an effective safety and health management system, as well as with the expectation that insurance companies may look favourably on contractors who have taken a pro-active approach to risk management as demonstrated through the
Safe-T-Cert is recognised under the ‘Buildsafe’ initiative in Northern Ireland and the ‘Construction Safety Partnership’ in the Republic of Ireland. Safe-T-Cert is also a member of Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP).
